Mathieu Olivier, a forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets, received a game misconduct penalty and was ejected from the NHL match against the Florida Panthers. The ejection occurred after Olivier speared Panthers defenseman Uvis Balinskis, an action involving jabbing an opponent with the stick blade. Spearing is considered a serious safety concern in hockey due to its potential to cause injury. Olivier's removal meant the Blue Jackets had fewer players for the remainder of the game, impacting their roster management.
