A Wassily Kandinsky painting, "Das bunte Leben," sold under disputed circumstances during Nazi occupation in 1940, has been recovered by its original Jewish owners' heirs and fetched £31.56 million at a London auction. The artwork was returned to the family in 2023, 83 years after its wartime sale. The painting was originally acquired by Hedwig and Emanuel Albert Lewenstein in 1927 and loaned to a museum before their children fled Europe.
