SPPU Faces Student Protests Over Campus Restrictions; Administration Promises Review

Student groups at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) protested on Monday against new campus access rules and alleged ideological discrimination. The university had restricted protests and required advance permission for events, leading to concerns about freedom of expression. SPPU administration stated the contentious circular will be reviewed by the management council on November 4. In the interim, barricades will be removed to ease student inconvenience, and student representatives will present their demands. The university appealed for the suspension of the agitation.

सोमवार को सावित्रीबाई फुले पुणे यूनिवर्सिटी (SPPU) में छात्र समूहों ने नए कैंपस प्रवेश नियमों और कथित वैचारिक भेदभाव के खिलाफ विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। यूनिवर्सिटी ने विरोध प्रदर्शनों पर रोक लगा दी थी और कार्यक्रमों के लिए अग्रिम अनुमति की आवश्यकता बताई थी, जिससे अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता को लेकर चिंताएं बढ़ गई थीं। SPPU प्रशासन ने कहा कि विवादित सर्कुलर की समीक्षा 4 नवंबर को मैनेजमेंट काउंसिल द्वारा की जाएगी। इस बीच, छात्रों की असुविधा को कम करने के लिए बैरिकेड्स हटा दिए जाएंगे और छात्र प्रतिनिधि अपनी मांगें रखेंगे। यूनिवर्सिटी ने आंदोलन स्थगित करने की अपील की है।
