Syria Fuel Price Hikes Spark Public Protests

Protests erupted across Syria on Sunday following a government decision to significantly increase fuel prices. Diesel prices rose by 40 percent, petrol by at least 25 percent, and cooking gas by around nine percent. The government cited a spike in refined petroleum products due to regional conflicts. This move has tested public patience with the economic recovery efforts since the fall of the al-Assad regime in December 2024, despite recent sanctions relief.
