India's Jwala Missile Aims To Counter Cheap Drones Affordably

The Hindu · india

The rising cost of modern warfare, particularly the expense of intercepting inexpensive drones, necessitates affordable defence solutions. Indian defence firm IG Defence has developed Jwala-MK1, a cost-effective short-range surface-to-air missile designed to destroy hostile unmanned aerial vehicles. The missile, showcased in May 2026, uses a solid-fuel dual-pulse rocket motor and has an engagement range of 2-5 km. Successful test-fires of its rocket motors mark progress, though full system trials are pending to assess operational suitability and cost-effectiveness.
