US Polio Patient Martha Lillard Dies At 92

Martha Lillard, the last known American polio patient breathing with the help of an iron lung, has passed away at the age of 92. Lillard contracted polio in 1952, just before the polio vaccine became widely available. She spent decades relying on the metal ventilator to survive after the disease paralyzed her diaphragm.
