Assam Students Warn River Mining Invites Catastrophe

The All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU) has warned of severe consequences from illegal riverbed mining in Assam's Dima Hasao district. Unscientific extraction of sand, gravel, and stone using heavy machinery threatens bank erosion, vital transport routes like National Highway 27, and drinking water sources. The union highlighted destruction of aquatic ecosystems and impacts on tribal livelihoods. ADSU has urged an immediate halt to mining activities and a joint inspection to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

ऑल डिमासा स्टूडेंट्स’ यूनियन (ADSU) ने असम के डिमा हसाओ जिले में अवैध नदी तल खनन के गंभीर परिणामों की चेतावनी दी है। भारी मशीनों से रेत, बजरी और पत्थर का अवैज्ञानिक तरीके से खनन, बैंक कटाव, नेशनल हाईवे 27 जैसे महत्वपूर्ण परिवहन मार्गों और पीने के पानी के स्रोतों को खतरे में डाल रहा है। यूनियन ने जलीय पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के विनाश और जनजातीय आजीविका पर पड़ने वाले प्रभावों को भी उजागर किया। ADSU ने खनन गतिविधियों पर तत्काल रोक लगाने और पर्यावरण नियमों के अनुपालन को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए संयुक्त निरीक्षण की मांग की है।
