Keralam Study Links Gut Bacteria Imbalance to Parkinson's Disease
The Hindu - Science · science
A new study involving patients from Keralam suggests a significant link between gut bacteria and Parkinson's disease. Researchers from CUSAT and SCTIMST found distinct differences in the gut microbiome of Parkinson's patients compared to healthy individuals. The study identified higher levels of inflammation-associated bacteria and lower levels of beneficial bacteria in patients. These findings indicate that an imbalanced gut microbiome could weaken the gut barrier, potentially contributing to brain inflammation and the progression of Parkinson's disease.
