The Kerala government has sanctioned ₹12.5 lakh as compensation for K.K. Surendran, a teacher subjected to custodial torture after his arrest in connection with the 2003 Muthanga land agitation. The government also ordered the recovery of this amount from the personal assets of two former police officers held responsible for his illegal arrest and torture. This decision follows a judgement by the Additional District Court-II, Kalpetta, and brings relief to Mr. Surendran after a 23-year legal battle.

केरल सरकार ने 2003 के मुथांगा भूमि आंदोलन के संबंध में गिरफ्तारी के बाद हिरासत में यातना का शिकार हुए एक शिक्षक के.के. सुरेंद्रन को ₹12.5 लाख के मुआवजे को मंजूरी दे दी है। सरकार ने उनकी अवैध गिरफ्तारी और यातना के लिए जिम्मेदार दो पूर्व पुलिस अधिकारियों की निजी संपत्ति से इस राशि की वसूली का भी आदेश दिया है। यह निर्णय काल्पेटा की अतिरिक्त जिला अदालत-II के फैसले के बाद आया है, और 23 साल की कानूनी लड़ाई के बाद श्री सुरेंद्रन को राहत मिली है।
