Despite objections, the Kerala government will proceed with dismantling illegal fences in Idukki's Devikulam forest range that obstruct elephant corridors. District Collector Dineshan Cheruvatt ordered the removal of unauthorized barriers, with forest officials already clearing fences near Munnar. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan clarified that only encroacher fences would be removed, not those of genuine farmers. Forest Minister Shibu Baby John highlighted that resorts and illegal constructions were disrupting wildlife movement, leading to elephants being stranded. The action aims to restore natural paths for wild animals.
