Karnataka Sugarcane Growers Association president Kurubur Shantakumar has stated that Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's claims about sugar factories shutting down if farmers' demands are met amount to scaremongering. Shantakumar met protesting farmers and expressed support for their demands, calling them just and fair. He urged the Union government to allow differential sugar pricing and enforce profit-sharing with farmers. Shantakumar also called for immediate drought relief, farm loan waivers, and a halt to forced loan recoveries by micro-finance institutions.

कर्नाटक गन्ना किसान संघ के अध्यक्ष कुरुबुर शांतकुमार ने कहा है कि मुख्यमंत्री डी. के. शिवकुमार का यह दावा कि किसानों की मांगों को मानने पर चीनी कारखाने बंद हो जाएंगे, डराने-धमकाने जैसा है। शांतकुमार ने विरोध कर रहे किसानों से मुलाकात की और उनकी मांगों का समर्थन किया, उन्हें जायज और उचित बताया। उन्होंने केंद्र सरकार से चीनी की अलग-अलग कीमतों की अनुमति देने और किसानों के साथ मुनाफे के बंटवारे को लागू करने का आग्रह किया। शांतकुमार ने तत्काल सूखा राहत, कृषि ऋण माफी और माइक्रो-फाइनेंस संस्थानों द्वारा जबरन ऋण वसूली पर रोक लगाने की भी मांग की।
