Amboli Double Murder: Bombay HC Acquits 2 Accused, Upholds Jitendra Rana's Conviction

The Bombay High Court has acquitted two accused, Sunil Both and Deepak Piwal, of murder charges in the 15-year-old Amboli double murder case. The court found that the prosecution failed to prove their common intention to kill Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez. However, their sentences for other offences were upheld. Jitendra Rana's murder conviction was affirmed, but his sentence was reduced to 20 years without statutory remission. The court noted Rana was 25 at the time and not a habitual offender.

बॉम्बे हाईकोर्ट ने 15 साल पुराने अंबोली डबल मर्डर केस में दो आरोपी, सुनील बोथ और दीपक पिवाल, को हत्या के आरोपों से बरी कर दिया है। कोर्ट ने पाया कि अभियोजन पक्ष उनकी कीनन सैंटोस और रूबेन फर्नांडीज की हत्या करने की साझा मंशा साबित करने में विफल रहा। हालांकि, अन्य अपराधों के लिए उनकी सज़ा बरकरार रखी गई। जितेंद्र राणा की हत्या की सज़ा की पुष्टि की गई, लेकिन उनकी सज़ा को वैधानिक छूट के बिना 20 साल कर दिया गया। कोर्ट ने कहा कि राणा उस समय 25 साल के थे और आदतन अपराधी नहीं थे।
