Times of India · interesting

In 1926, Frankfurt pioneered the installation of the world's first modern fitted kitchens in thousands of homes, designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky for efficiency. Approximately 10,000 were installed as part of a post-WWI housing program. A century later, most have vanished, but volunteers are now salvaging parts from about 50 surviving kitchens. Conservation specialists are working to preserve this influential design that shaped contemporary fitted kitchens, with rescued components stored for a new preservation effort.
