Discarded Bottles Transformed Into 15-Building Folk-Art Village

Times of India - India · india

In 1956, Tressa Prisbrey began collecting discarded bottles and household items from a landfill when she couldn't afford building materials. Over 25 years, she created Bottle Village in Simi Valley, California, a folk-art site featuring 15 structures, mosaic paths, and sculpture gardens. Prisbrey used bottles for walls, allowing natural light to create colourful patterns inside. The village also served as a personal memorial, with structures dedicated to lost family members. Bottle Village became a popular attraction, with Prisbrey leading tours and charging admission.
