India Challenges EU on Climate Finance, Cites Developed Nations' Historical Emissions

India Today · world

Union Minister Piyush Goyal confronted developed nations and the EU in Berlin, asserting their historical responsibility for global emissions and unfulfilled climate finance pledges. He highlighted that while India supports 17 percent of the global population, it contributes less than 3 percent of carbon emissions, with per capita levels significantly lower than European figures. Goyal argued that developing economies should not be penalized for the carbon burdens created by industrialised nations, especially as India rapidly expands clean energy while meeting the needs of 1.4 billion people.
