The Bank of England will feature native wildlife, including barn owls and bumblebees, on future banknotes, replacing historic figures like Winston Churchill. This decision follows a public consultation where nearly 500,000 people voted on animal selections. The buff-tailed bumblebee was the most popular choice, followed by the barn owl and hedgehog. The BoE stated the change aims to make banknotes more distinctive and harder to counterfeit, while acknowledging the continued importance of cash despite declining usage.
