Early South Indian Art Shows Saraswati Without Her Veena
The Hindu · india
Goddess Saraswati, revered for knowledge and arts, is commonly depicted holding a veena. However, early South Indian temple art from the Pallava and Chola periods reveals a different vision of the deity. These ancient sculptures portray Saraswati without her signature musical instrument. This artistic evolution suggests that the familiar image of Saraswati with a veena is not the only or original representation of the goddess.
