Supreme Court Stays Ahmedabad Blast Convict's Death Sentence

The Supreme Court has stayed the death sentence of Mohammed Tanvir, a member of the Indian Mujahideen convicted in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bombings. A three-judge bench issued the order, challenging a Gujarat High Court decision that upheld the death penalty for 38 convicts. The court has requested a detailed report on Tanvir's conduct in jail and a psychological evaluation from a government hospital within eight weeks. All original records from the trial and high courts have also been summoned.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने 2008 के अहमदाबाद सीरियल बम धमाकों के मामले में दोषी इंडियन मुजाहिदीन के सदस्य मोहम्मद तन्वीर की मौत की सज़ा पर रोक लगा दी है। तीन जजों की बेंच ने गुजरात हाई कोर्ट के उस फैसले को चुनौती देते हुए यह आदेश जारी किया, जिसमें 38 दोषियों की मौत की सज़ा को बरकरार रखा गया था। कोर्ट ने आठ हफ़्तों के अंदर जेल में तन्वीर के आचरण पर विस्तृत रिपोर्ट और सरकारी अस्पताल से मनोवैज्ञानिक मूल्यांकन की मांग की है। ट्रायल कोर्ट और हाई कोर्ट के सभी मूल रिकॉर्ड भी तलब किए गए हैं।
