Ex-IMF Director Calls Pakistan's 2027 Chairmanship Ceremonial, Not Powerful

Krishnamurthy V Subramanian, former executive director at the IMF, has refuted Pakistan's assertion that its upcoming 2027 chairmanship of the IMF and World Bank Boards of Governors signifies a return to global financial leadership. He clarified that the role is purely ceremonial and rotates annually among member nations, unlike India's G20 presidency which set global agendas. Pakistan's Ministry of Economic Affairs had termed the appointment a "historic milestone." Subramanian emphasized that this chairmanship is about protocol, not actual power in global economic forums.

IMF में पूर्व कार्यकारी निदेशक कृष्णमूर्ति वी. सुब्रमण्यन ने पाकिस्तान के इस दावे को खारिज कर दिया है कि IMF और विश्व बैंक के बोर्ड ऑफ गवर्नर्स की 2027 की अध्यक्षता वैश्विक वित्तीय नेतृत्व में वापसी का संकेत है। उन्होंने साफ़ किया कि यह भूमिका पूरी तरह से औपचारिक है और सदस्य देशों के बीच सालाना बदलती रहती है, भारत की G20 अध्यक्षता के विपरीत जिसने वैश्विक एजेंडा तय किया था। पाकिस्तान के आर्थिक मामलों के मंत्रालय ने इस नियुक्ति को "ऐतिहासिक मील का पत्थर" बताया था। सुब्रमण्यन ने ज़ोर देकर कहा कि यह अध्यक्षता प्रोटोकॉल के बारे में है, न कि वैश्विक आर्थिक मंचों में वास्तविक शक्ति के बारे में।
