Odisha's Similipal Eco-Sensitive Zone Notification Pending For 7 Years

Seven years after the draft notification for an eco-sensitive zone around Odisha's Similipal tiger reserve was issued, the final notification remains pending. The Union environment ministry has blamed the state government for the delay, stating Odisha repeatedly failed to provide required information. The ministry issued at least three reminders since July last year seeking details for the process. Eco-sensitive zones act as buffer areas, restricting commercial activities up to 10 km beyond protected areas. The proposal has faced delays due to revisions and requests for additional information.

ओडिशा के सिमलीपाल टाइगर रिज़र्व के आसपास इको-सेंसिटिव ज़ोन के लिए मसौदा अधिसूचना जारी होने के सात साल बाद भी अंतिम अधिसूचना लंबित है। केंद्रीय पर्यावरण मंत्रालय ने इस देरी के लिए राज्य सरकार को जिम्मेदार ठहराया है, यह कहते हुए कि ओडिशा ने बार-बार आवश्यक जानकारी प्रदान करने में विफलता दिखाई है। मंत्रालय ने प्रक्रिया के लिए विवरण मांगने हेतु पिछले साल जुलाई से कम से कम तीन अनुस्मारक जारी किए थे। इको-सेंसिटिव ज़ोन बफर क्षेत्रों के रूप में कार्य करते हैं, जो संरक्षित क्षेत्रों से 10 किमी तक वाणिज्यिक गतिविधियों को प्रतिबंधित करते हैं। प्रस्ताव में संशोधन और अतिरिक्त जानकारी के अनुरोधों के कारण देरी हुई है।
