Kolkata Civic Body Ward Redraw & Delimitation Criticised by Opposition Parties

Opposition parties in Kolkata have slammed the redrawing of KMC ward boundaries and the subsequent delimitation exercise as unscientific and lacking consultation. Allegations include the process being rushed and designed to benefit the ruling party, with revised ward maps differing from those presented during hearings. Concerns were also raised about using outdated population data from 2011 for the delimitation, while a census is underway. A court order has temporarily restrained KMC polls pending a decision on a petition challenging the delimitation process.
