Tamil Nadu Environmental Group Flags Dilution of Safeguards in Land Conversion Rules
The Hindu · india
An environmental organisation in Tamil Nadu has raised concerns over recent amendments to rules governing agricultural land conversion for non-agricultural purposes. Poovulagin Nanbargal stated that the changes could weaken the scrutiny process, particularly questioning the removal of the District Collector's personal inspection requirement. The organisation believes the new process relies too heavily on self-attested documents and online declarations. They also criticised the government's perceived haste in making agricultural lands available for industrial development, expressing concern over insufficient clarity on physical land inspections.
