Rajoana Demands Sentence Commutation Or Execution

Death-row convict Balwant Singh Rajoana has demanded an immediate decision on his sentence, stating he would not seek clemency. He met with Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj and SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami in Patiala Central Jail. Rajoana wants authorities to either execute him or commute his sentence, rather than keep the matter pending. He has been imprisoned for nearly 32 years, with over 15 years in condemned cells. The Centre had announced in 2019 that his death sentence would be commuted, but the decision remains unimplemented.

मौत की सज़ा पाए बलवंत सिंह राजोआना ने अपनी सज़ा पर तुरंत फ़ैसला करने की मांग की है, और कहा है कि वह रहम की अपील नहीं करेंगे। उन्होंने पटियाला सेंट्रल जेल में अकाल तख्त के कार्यवाहक जत्थेदार ज्ञानी कुलदीप सिंह गर्गज और SGPC अध्यक्ष हरजिंदर सिंह धामी से मुलाक़ात की। राजोआना चाहते हैं कि अधिकारी या तो उन्हें फांसी दें या सज़ा माफ़ कर दें, बजाय इसके कि मामला लंबित रखा जाए। वह लगभग 32 सालों से जेल में हैं, जिनमें से 15 साल से ज़्यादा मौत की कोठरी में बिताए हैं। केंद्र ने 2019 में घोषणा की थी कि उनकी मौत की सज़ा माफ़ कर दी जाएगी, लेकिन यह फ़ैसला लागू नहीं हुआ है।
