AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has accused Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay of speaking contrary to the truth regarding the arrest of industrialist R. Veeramani of Gem Granites. Palaniswami questioned the delay in the arrest, stating it was ordered by a special court after government pleader adjournments. He alleged that TVK ministers shared the stage with Veeramani, calling him a 'family friend,' and accused the current regime of shielding the accused. Palaniswami also criticized the Chief Minister for acting in real life and not just in films.
