The Hindu · india

The Tenkasi Forest Division in Tamil Nadu is expanding its 'Golden Jackal Ambassadors' programme to include the conservation of the Madras hedgehog. This initiative, initially launched to boost the golden jackal population, trains students and volunteers to protect wildlife. The programme aims to raise public awareness about conserving small animals like the Madras hedgehog, whose population has declined due to habitat loss, vehicle collisions, and illegal hunting. The forest department believes educating the youth will help mitigate these threats and protect the ecosystem.
