Banks experienced accelerated balance-sheet expansion in the first half of FY27, with year-on-year credit growth reaching 19.4% and aggregate deposits growing 17.8%. Total bank credit stood at over Rs 229.9 lakh crore as of September 30, while deposits reached approximately Rs 284 lakh crore. This growth is partly attributed to the $133 billion mobilised under the FCNR(B) scheme. Time deposits were the main driver for deposit accretion, contributing significantly to the overall annual deposit growth.
