The 44-year-old fast bowler, who took over 700 Test wickets, played for Lancashire for 25 years and even captained them last season. Despite a strong performance with 50 wickets in 11 games, the county finished seventh in Division 2. Anderson expressed that he wished the situation had not ended this way. Lancashire's Director of Cricket, Paul Farbrace, stated the decision was part of a rebuild to achieve promotion and challenge in Division One.
