Averaging Stocks vs Mutual Funds Explained

Business Standard · stocks

Averaging in investing means buying more units over time at different price points to lower the average cost of acquisition. While averaging down involves buying more when prices fall, averaging up means buying more as prices rise. Mutual funds, especially through SIPs, automate this process, buying more units when markets are low and fewer when high. This strategy works well for diversified mutual funds because they are less susceptible to the fortunes of a single company, unlike individual stocks where falling prices can signal deeper business problems.
