Six ancient idols, worshipped for centuries at the Balekudru monastery in Udupi, Karnataka, have been stolen and allegedly sold. The monastery's head, Swami Vasudeva Sadashivashrama, claimed the old idols were immersed and replaced with new ones. However, disciples discovered photos of the missing idols listed for sale on an international website. Following a complaint, police registered a case and arrested the owner of a Bengaluru-based antique company, 'Idols'. The investigation suggests the involvement of the Swami and some monastery staff in the theft and sale.
