India's Waste Challenge: Moving Beyond Management to Designing Out Waste
Hindustan Times · environment
India's waste management challenge intensifies during the festive season due to increased consumption and large gatherings. A shift from merely managing discards to designing out waste is crucial for the next phase of Swachh Bharat. This involves adopting a circular economy approach that prioritizes reducing waste at the source, keeping materials in use longer, and enabling their return to productive cycles. Initiatives like ITC's WOW program demonstrate the importance of source segregation and building systems for collection, segregation, and recovery, starting from where waste is generated.
