South Korean golfer Tom Kim secured a gold medal at the Asian Games, granting him an exemption from mandatory military service. Most able-bodied South Korean men are required to serve approximately 18 months. However, winning gold at the Asian Games or any medal at the Olympics provides an exemption. Kim achieved this by shooting a final round 6-under 64 for a four-day total of 18-under 262. Despite the exemption, Kim expressed greater pride in winning a medal for his country.
