Banker Accuses Union of Betrayal Over Strike Deferral

A former banker has accused the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) of betrayal after a three-day nationwide bank strike was deferred hours before it was to begin. Swarnakshi Jha stated that employees made significant sacrifices, including losing salary and cancelling leaves, without consultation. The strike was called off following assurances from the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) on pending demands, including making all Saturdays holidays. A high-level committee will now discuss the issue further, but Jha expressed deep frustration over the lack of transparency and perceived surrender by union leadership.
