This decision follows an accident involving a leased bus where the driver reported brake issues. Currently, fines are ₹500 per day, capped at ₹3,000. BEST Committee members advocate for higher penalties to ensure operator accountability and deter the use of faulty vehicles, aiming to improve passenger safety on Mumbai's roads.
