A sudden shift in wind caused a grass fire to rapidly engulf soldiers during a live-fire combat training exercise at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta. Four soldiers were killed and 39 others were injured, with 19 in critical condition. Prime Minister Mark Carney described the incident as one of Canada's worst peacetime military tragedies on domestic soil. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, and investigators are examining the wind's role in its swift and lethal spread across the open prairie landscape.
