French President Emmanuel Macron is touring the Gulf, visiting Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain, to strengthen defence ties and secure oil and gas supplies. This trip comes as France grapples with widespread violent protests over proposed budget cuts impacting public spending and the cost of living. The UAE is France's largest trading partner in the Gulf, with bilateral trade reaching 10.8 billion euros in 2025.
