Keralam Govt Proposal Offers Partial Relief in ESA

The Keralam government's proposal to exclude inhabited areas and farmland from the Ecologically Sensitive Area (ESA) regime has not fully satisfied residents in Pathanamthitta. While the state submitted a revised list proposing exclusion for 33 villages across seven districts, none of the seven villages in Pathanamthitta covered by the Centre's draft notification are slated for complete exclusion. This leaves forest-fringe areas facing continued uncertainty, prompting protests from farmer organisations and the CPI(M). Residents are concerned about potential farming disruptions if the draft notification is finalised without complete relief.

केरल सरकार के प्रस्ताव से कि बसावट वाले इलाकों और खेती की ज़मीनों को इकोलॉजिकली सेंसिटिव एरिया (ESA) के दायरे से बाहर रखा जाएगा, पथानामथिट्टा के निवासियों को पूरी तरह संतुष्टि नहीं मिली है। राज्य ने सात जिलों में 33 गांवों को बाहर रखने का संशोधित प्रस्ताव दिया है, लेकिन पथानामथिट्टा के सात गांवों में से किसी को भी पूरी तरह बाहर नहीं रखा गया है। इससे जंगल के किनारे वाले इलाकों में अनिश्चितता बनी हुई है, जिसके चलते किसान संगठनों और CPI(M) ने विरोध प्रदर्शन किया है। निवासियों को चिंता है कि अगर मसौदा अधिसूचना पूरी राहत के बिना अंतिम रूप ले लेती है तो खेती में बाधा आ सकती है।
