Govt Discusses UPI Fee Burden on Consumers

The Indian government is discussing with payment aggregators and platforms to prevent merchants from passing on the new UPI transaction fee to consumers. Officials stated that banks have been advised to ensure merchants do not pass on the merchant discount rate (MDR) to customers. The government expects UPI transactions to continue unaffected and does not anticipate increased cash usage. A dedicated fund will be established from MDR collections to promote UPI usage among small merchants.

सरकार पेमेंट एग्रीगेटर्स और प्लेटफॉर्म्स से बात कर रही है ताकि UPI ट्रांजेक्शन फीस ग्राहकों पर न पड़े। अफसरों ने बैंकों से कहा है कि वे सुनिश्चित करें कि व्यापारी MDR ग्राहकों से न वसूलें। सरकार को उम्मीद है कि UPI ट्रांजेक्शन पहले की तरह चलते रहेंगे और कैश का इस्तेमाल नहीं बढ़ेगा। छोटे व्यापारियों में UPI के इस्तेमाल को बढ़ावा देने के लिए MDR कलेक्शन से एक फंड बनाया जाएगा।
