Senegal Hosts Youth Olympics, Eyes Future Games

Senegal will host the first-ever Olympic event in Africa with the Youth Olympics at the end of October 2026. Approximately 2,700 young athletes will compete in 153 events across 25 sports. This event is seen as a crucial test for the continent's ability to host major sporting competitions. Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed pride, stating that all of young Africa is watching. Experts believe hosting such events opens doors for Africa to potentially host the full Summer Olympics in the future.
