Gondal Royals Revive Mumbai's 110-Year-Old Royal Opera House
HT - Lifestyle · lifestyle
The Royal Opera House in Mumbai, a historic Baroque edifice, has celebrated a decade since its restoration and reopening as a centre for live music and visual storytelling. The Gondal family, who acquired the opera house in 1952, faced a painful closure in 1993 due to video piracy impacting single-screen theatres. However, bringing the venue back to life was always part of their long-term vision. Rajmata Kumud Kumari of Gondal expressed pride in preserving this legacy, which allows them to carry forward previous generations' aspirations for the iconic building.
