Egypt's Ancient Fayoum Portraits To Be Exhibited Abroad For First Time

Egypt has presented a restored "Tondo of the Two Brothers," a second-century painting from the Fayoum portrait collection. The restoration, a collaboration between Egyptian and Italian experts, took three weeks. Fayoum mummy portraits, typically on wooden panels, blend Egyptian burial traditions with Greco-Roman artistic styles. A significant portion of the collection will be loaned to Rome for its first exhibition outside Egypt, running from November through May 2027 and featuring over 110 artefacts.
