A 100-metre stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district was washed away by a landslide in July 2026 following incessant rain. The incident left around 100 pilgrims stranded, requiring rescuers to guide them across an alternative path. Heavy rains also triggered landslides blocking approximately 120 roads, including three national highways, highlighting the vulnerability of Himalayan infrastructure to extreme weather events.
