India Gets More EU Steel Access, Carbon Levy

India has secured a preferential quota allowing up to 1.64 million metric tons of steel exports annually to the European Union under a free trade agreement. This includes an additional 694,853 tons on top of an existing WTO quota. However, Indian steel will still face the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, estimated to add significant costs. Shipments exceeding the quota will be subject to a 50% tariff.

भारत को यूरोपीय संघ के साथ एक फ्री ट्रेड एग्रीमेंट के तहत सालाना 1.64 मिलियन मीट्रिक टन स्टील निर्यात करने का कोटा मिला है। यह मौजूदा WTO कोटे के अलावा 694,853 टन अतिरिक्त है। हालांकि, भारतीय स्टील पर EU का कार्बन बॉर्डर एडजस्टमेंट मैकेनिज्म (CBAM) लागू होगा, जिससे लागत बढ़ सकती है। कोटे से ज्यादा निर्यात पर 50% टैरिफ लगेगा।
