MP Forest Land Encroachment: Probe Finds 31.48 Hectares Occupied, Saplings Destroyed

An investigation into forest land encroachment in Budhni, Madhya Pradesh, has revealed that 31.48 hectares of land were occupied. The probe, ordered by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav following concerns raised by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, found that approximately 78,000 teak saplings planted in 2021 were destroyed. Satellite imagery from 2022 indicated land preparation for cultivation and temporary shelters. The report names 12 individuals, and authorities claim the land has now been cleared of encroachment. The controversy arose after tribal homes were reportedly demolished during the eviction process.
