England's Historic Cowes Crane Owners Ordered To Repay Emergency Repair Costs

Times of India - India · india

England's 150-foot Hammerhead Crane in Cowes, Isle of Wight, narrowly avoided collapse due to severe corrosion. The Isle of Wight Council has successfully recovered £358,000 from the former owners to cover emergency repair costs. These funds were largely reimbursed to Historic England after the council covered its own officer expenses. Built in the early 1900s, the 80-tonne crane is the last surviving pre-First World War hammerhead crane of its kind in England. The council intervened after owners failed to act, preserving this industrial monument.
