80% Karnataka ESA Already Protected Forests

Karnataka Minister B. Eshwar Khandre stated that 80% of the draft Ecologically Sensitive Area (ESA) in the state is already conserved within tiger reserves or protected forests. Out of 20,668 sq. km identified as ESA, approximately 16,000 sq. km falls under these protected categories. The minister highlighted concerns about 1,449 villages in 10 districts also being included in the ESA and called for their exclusion.

कर्नाटक के मंत्री बी. ईश्वर खांड्रे ने बताया कि राज्य में इकोलॉजिकली सेंसिटिव एरिया (ESA) का 80% हिस्सा पहले से ही टाइगर रिजर्व या संरक्षित वनों में आता है। कुल 20,668 वर्ग किमी के ईएसए में से करीब 16,000 वर्ग किमी इन सुरक्षित क्षेत्रों में है। मंत्री ने 10 जिलों के 1,449 गांवों को भी ईएसए में शामिल करने पर चिंता जताई और उन्हें बाहर रखने की मांग की।
