Seven Seeds Secretly Brought From Yemen Led to Coffee Cultivation in India
TV9 Hindi · interesting
Coffee cultivation in India began approximately four hundred years ago with seven seeds secretly brought from Yemen by Sufi saint Baba Budan. He was inspired by the coffee he tasted in Mocha, Yemen, and wanted to bring the beans back to India. He planted these raw seeds in the hills near Chikmagalur, which later became known as Baba Budan Giri. Initially, coffee was not a major trade crop, but over centuries, its cultivation expanded across the hilly regions of South India.
