Kolkata Durga Puja Stampede: SIT Focuses On Narrow Exit, Dim Lighting

A six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the Kolkata stampede that killed 19 people on October 17. Investigators have zeroed in on the narrow exit point and dimly lit pathway of the Chor Bagan Durga Puja pandal as potential causes. Retired judge Anindita Roy Saraswati stated the incident occurred at the exit, not inside the pandal, noting dim lighting as a factor. Families of victims allege the emergency gate was locked, and the common exit was severely narrowed by AC units and food stalls.
