Hindustan Times · india

The Karnataka Cabinet has rejected the mercy petitions of Shubha Shankaranarayana and D Arun Verma, who are serving life sentences for the 2003 murder of Shubha's fiancé, software engineer B V Girish. The Cabinet deemed the killing premeditated and exceptionally brutal, finding no grounds for clemency within the legal framework. This recommendation will now be sent to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot for a final decision. The Supreme Court had previously upheld the life sentences for all four convicted individuals, granting them eight weeks to approach the governor.
