SC backs DM plea over Rs 5 lakh

The Supreme Court on Wednesday backed Gautam Buddha Nagar district magistrate Medha Roopam's plea against a Rs 5 lakh penalty. The court observed that the DM could not be isolated from the decision-making process leading to student protester Akriti Chaudhary's detention under the National Security Act. The apex court noted that if the decision-making chain ran from top to bottom, the DM could not be singled out.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने बुधवार को गौतम बुद्ध नगर की डीएम मेधा रूपम की 5 लाख रुपये के जुर्माने के खिलाफ याचिका को मंज़ूरी दे दी। कोर्ट ने कहा कि स्टूडेंट प्रोटेस्टर आकृति चौधरी को NSA के तहत हिरासत में लेने के फैसले में डीएम को अलग नहीं किया जा सकता। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने माना कि अगर फैसले की प्रक्रिया ऊपर से नीचे तक चलती है, तो डीएम को अकेला नहीं ठहराया जा सकता।
