New York Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed Attorney General Letitia James as a special prosecutor to investigate a Cornell University rape case. Hochul stated the victim was failed by campus police and the county prosecutor, who closed the initial probe without interviewing key individuals. The case involves allegations of a gang rape where the accuser was allegedly drugged and incapacitated. The district attorney reopened the investigation after a lawsuit was filed, but has since been removed from the case. Attorney General James will review evidence and pursue charges if warranted.
